With Christmas coming up lots of people have a traditional “live” tree decorated inside their home.
Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill advises those individuals who have a live tree to remember to water it consistently and be mindful of the electricity that is being used to light up certain decorative lights and ornaments.
“You don’t remember to walk it per say or something and it gets dry, it takes absolutely nothing for that tree to ignite. And a tree goes up (and is consumed by fire) in about 30 seconds. It creates one horrible situation for your home.”
Hill adds to having smoke detectors in several places throughout a home in case there is a fire, those devices could mean the difference between life and death.
