With the second gun deer season starting December 9th, there are still some tips for hunters to follow.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that besides the other tips and reminders that he shares with hunters each season, another he includes involves communication devices. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that for those that hunt in groups, using something to communicate over distances besides spoken words is not allowed.

“So you can’t use any type of one way or two way communication devices to coordinate the movement of deer or hunters. And this kind of gets people in a jam sometimes, because they’ll be on their phone. Whether you’re using radios and telling people where deer are going, even apps like Snapchat have gotten people in trouble. Just leave that stuff off to the side.”

King mentions that his suggestion is to make a plan before going out, and then follow that plan no matter what, because once it’s been enacted, a new one can be thought up and used. He strongly discourages using communication devices, because if you’re caught, it is a very quick way to get in trouble.
