The AC/GC Chargers had some good games Friday night.
The girls basketball team started things off by outscoring their opponents, the Ogden Bulldogs, 22-7 in the first quarter, and didn’t let their feet come off the pedal all game, going up 42-11 before half, then only allowing 4 points in the second half, and taking a 64-15 victory. Senior guard Kelsey Carlson talks about what helped the team jump to that early lead and just keep going.
“We have a really good point guard who makes sure to work really hard to establish the offense for us in the first place, so she helps a lot with that. And then we, right now, are focusing on being crisp with our passes, making sure we’re going quickly and being intentional and giving everybody an opportunity. It’s not just a one man show, it’s a whole team thing, and we’re making sure everyone gets an opportunity. We pass the ball around, make sure to, as Baudler says, ‘touch the corners,’ and then that’s how we get the best shot.”
The boys team had a similar start, by going up 20-9 in the first, but eased off a little in the second, scoring and allowing 14 points. The Chargers then scored 21 and allowed 13 in the third, then outscored the Bulldogs 16-15 in the fourth quarter to take the 71-51 victory. Junior guard Noah Kading tells Raccoon Valley Radio what helped the team push back into the large lead.
“For the most part, we took care of the ball well. We got fast break points because of the press, and we shot pretty well. I think that’s the good part about having a team so deep. We got Joe off the bench, who came in and scored a lot, and Bunde was shooting well, and everybody just scored a lot.”
The teams will return to action Monday against the AHSTW Vikings on the road in Avoca.
