Greene County’s varsity basketball teams are still searching for their first wins of the 2023-24 season after Friday night’s losses in Story City to a pair of unbeaten Roland-Story teams. The games were broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with Class 2A number 12 R-S winning the girls’ game 74-23, then R-S taking the boys’ contest, 61-28.

The Norsemen are 5-0 in girls’ basketball while the Rams fell to 0-7. In the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference R-S is 3-0 while the Rams are 0-3. The Norsemen are ranked number 12 in Class 3A and all 13 players that played in the contest scored at least one point. Matilda Motta scored 14 points for R-S with Claire Truesdell adding 13. The Rams were led in scoring by Emma Shipley with 11 points. R-S held a 46-16 halftime lead.

The Rams are 0-6 on the boys’ side overall and 0-3 in the HOIAC with R-S at 4-0, 3-0. Boaz Clark had 18 points to lead the Norsemen in scoring while Nathan Behne had 10 points to lead the Rams. Roland-Story led 41-6 at halftime. Greene County played without normal starters Isaac Carman and Gabe Ebersole.
