The Dallas County Conservation Board and the Raccoon River Watershed Association are teaming up to host a unique program on Saturday.
Dallas County Conservation Outreach Coordinator Sarah McKeever tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Annual Dallas County Christmas Bird Count is happening all day on Saturday. She says anyone can participate and all skill levels are encouraged to do so, to count the number of birds they see in a designated area. McKeever explains why it is important that this happens every year.
“So all of the information that we gather here in Dallas County is sent to the National Audubon Society. And they take that information and look at the long-term health of our bird populations all across the country and beyond. So you’re really participating in a much larger research project by gathering all this information here locally.”
McKeever adds that beginners can be with experienced “birders” to do the count. She encourages people to dress warmly. Click the link below to register.
