With some unseasonably warmer temperatures this time of year, it has led to a number of projects being checked off by the Greene County Engineer’s Office.

County Engineer Wade Weiss tells Raccoon Valley Radio work was recently completed on resetting a box culvert on County Road E-53, east of Ralston. Weiss says this area has been a problem for a long time, but not to the point where it needed immediate attention. However, he points out that because of the warmer temperatures in late November, crews were able to tie together the drainage tile and make any necessary repairs before burying it again.

Weiss notes the other low priority item that they were able to finally get done is repairing a drainage tile under County Road P-14, south of Churdan. Once again, Weiss says this tile has had deterioration over the years and they hired a crew to come in and directionally bore to make the repairs, which is more economically feasible than digging up concrete.

“We have a number of directional boring companies that we use. We have a group right now that’s out of Glidden that’s precision boring, so we’re talking anywhere from six inch to 14 inch that will pull across the road. So it takes quite a machine to do that. Usually, we only directionally bore under paved roads. We’lll do an open cut across gravel roads.”

Weiss expects that project to be wrapped up soon.
