This is the last full week of basketball games before the break for the holidays for the Greene County Rams. There would seem to be a “mixed bag” of news for both the girls and boys teams. For example, after the girls have played five of its first seven games away from Jefferson and the boys away for four of its first six, the Rams are at home all this week. Nevada visits the Rams tomorrow night with West Marshall (State Center) making the trip west on Friday night for Rams against Cancer night, then the Kuemper Catholic teams rounding out the week with a Saturday afternoon twin bill.
Greene County is 0-7 in girls’ basketball and 0-6 on the boys’ side. The path to victory hasn’t been easy and on paper it won’t get significantly easier easier this week. The seven teams the girls have played are a combined 32-8 going into this week for a winning percentage of 80%. The next three opponents are 8-7 combined. For the boys, their six opponents in the books are 20-10 and the three the Rams play this week are 10-5 entering this week.
Injuries and illness have also played a role in the slow starts to the season as both Greene County teams, but especially the girls’ squad, haven’t had a full roster of players suited up.
Tuesday’s game with Nevada can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 o’clock and the boys will follow.
