Nevada swept a varsity girl/boy basketball doubleheader on Tuesday night in the high school gym in Jefferson. The girls’ final was 55-16 and the boys’ game was 72-42. The Nevada girls improved to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference while the Cubs are 6-0 and 4-0 in boys’ basketball. Greene County is 0-8, 0-4 on the girls’ side and 0-7, 0-4 for the boys. The games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Trailing 9-5 after one quarter, the Greene County girls fell behind 35-10 at intermission. The lead grew beyond the 35 point margin to activate the continuous clock in the fourth quarter. The Rams didn’t score in the last stanza and 15 of the 16 points were scored by two players. Freshman Makenna Ebersole had eight points and sophomore Kaycee Pittman scored seven. Nevada was led by Dakota Hendricks with 15 points on five three-point goals. Jorie Hillman added 11 points for the Cubs.
Nevada’s boys sank 14 three-point shots en route to the one-sided victory. Easton Gray had 17 points for the Cubs and John Nelson added 15. Nine Rams scored points with the leaders at eight points apiece from Nathan Behne and Nick Madsen.
GreeneCounty hosts West Marshall (State Center) this Friday in HOIAC basketball. The evening has been designated as Rams Against Cancer Night.
