The Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has a quiet month planned for the rest of December.

Youth Coordinator Caroline Savage says that the two big things for the month are the beef weigh-in, and the Clover Kids gathering plastic bags. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why the beef weigh-in is important.

“It is mandatory to be weighed in and tagged. If for some reason that December 28th date does not work, please call our office and we will find another county and another possibility for you to weigh-in. But yes, that is a requirement to be weighed in and tagged at our official weigh-in. If it’s a state fair animal, they will go over to the Adair County vet for a retinal image. And again, call our office, let us know how many head you plan on bringing in. If you have any state fair animals that you want to nominate so we can make sure we have those retinal images done for you.”

Savage mentions that the Clover Kids are trying to gather about 500 pounds of plastic bags, so that they can have them recycled into a picnic table, and then donate the table to the Adair County Fairgrounds.
