
The West Marshall (State Cemter) girls and boys basketball teams won Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games in Jefferson on Friday against Greene County. WM won the girls’ game 65-19 and took the boys’ contest 66-31.The Trojans on the girls’ side are 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the HOIAC while the Trojans boys are 2-5 and 1-4. The Rams are 0-9 and 0-5 on the girls’ side and 0-8 and 0-5 for the boys. Both games Friday night were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Emma Shipley had eight points for the Rams and Sara Morlan added five points. The Rams made four three-point goals, but the Trojans sank 10-three’s, eight in the first half. Riley Randall entered the game averaging one point per game, but she made six three-pointers en route to a 21 point effort.
The Rams played the boys’ game without starters Gabe Ebersole and Nathan Behne and weren’t able to stay with the Trojans, who had a big rebounding advantage. Brynley Ruzicka led the Rams in scoring with 13 points. Lucas Barnes came off the WM bench to scored 16 points to lead all scorers.
The Greene County teams host Kuemper Catholic today with a JV boys’ game at 11:30 a.m., and the girls’ game at 1 p.m. The varsity boys’ game will follow the girls’ contest.
