Perry and surrounding residents are encouraged to stop into the Carnegie Library Museum to see an array of decorated trees.

Carnegie Museum Librarian Candi Coffin tells Raccoon Valley Radio close to 40 trees are on display for the 9th Annual Festival of Trees. She says this is an opportunity for community members, as well as businesses and organizations to decorate a tree and have it on display at the Carnegie Library Museum.

“The creativity is awesome. I have seen some very interesting trees that I never would’ve thought about. This year we have one that is an adding machine, that’s its basis. So you’ve got to come in and see it.”

People that stop in to look at the trees can also vote for their favorites. Coffin notes that three tokens will be given to each visitor and they can vote three times, with the top two trees getting a shoutout and bragging rights. She points out that they will accept free will donations, which goes back to the museum.

“The Carnegie building is a very historic building and it was restored. Free will donations and other any donations that we receive is to help maintain this building so that it doesn’t fall into disrepair or become an eyesore that nobody wants to have around. It is a beautiful building (with) hardwood floors, bookcases, and an eclectic set of books is what I’d call it. They’re not newer books like your main library has, it’s some of your older classics.”

The trees are on display until December 30th. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am-4pm and Thursdays until 7pm.
