The Adel Police Department will soon have a new person at the helm.

The current Police Chief Gordy Shepard will be retiring after 31 years in law enforcement, and of those 27 were with the Adel Police Department. The Adel City Council approved on October 10th the appointment of Wade Book to become the new police chief. Book has been with the Adel Police Department since 2013 and is currently a detective and lieutenant. 

Book will officially take over as police chief on February 2nd.
