A Des Moines man was arrested for violating sex offender registry following an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
According to court documents, the investigation began on December 2nd when a caller notified the Sheriff’s Office about 26-year-old Dakota Amos living in an apartment in the 1400 block of Woodland Drive and allegedly being on the Sex Offender’s Registry. During the investigation, a search of Amos on the National Sex Offender Public website, his address was listed in Bagley since this past October.
Court documents show during a conversation with the property owner in Bagley that Amos has never lived in that residence. Investigators discovered the apartment that Amos was living in Jefferson with three other individuals, two of which were children. Amos is registered as a “Tier 3” restriction on the Sex Offender Registry, which requires him to verify his address every three months, and can’t live within 2,000 feet of a school or childcare facility. A daycare facility was less than 1,000 feet to the apartment complex.
Court documents show that Amos was previously convicted in Wisconsin in 2018 of sexual intercourse with a child 16 or older and second degree sexual assault of a child. A search warrant was executed of the apartment on December 3rd and when Amos refused to talk with law enforcement, he was arrested. Amos is charged with a Class D Felony for child endangerment-registered sex offender, and two aggravated misdemeanors for his first offense of sex offender registration violation. He was booked into the Greene County Jail where he was released after posting a cash surety bond of a portion of $12,000.
