Greene County veterans enjoyed some comradery and good food at a special event.

Last Thursday, veterans and a guest were invited to enjoy a holiday meal at the Jefferson Elks Lodge. Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl says 120 people attended and Lidderdale Country Store provided the meal. He points out that after the meal was some musical entertainment, some information was presented to the veterans about benefits that Greene County provides and door prizes were given away.

Bierl says the funding for this special event came from their allotment of money from the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs. He notes that every year each county is given $10,000 to be used for outreach programs. Bierl says after talking it over with the Greene County Veterans Affairs Commission and the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs they decided to have the holiday meal.
