The 2023 portion of the girls’ basketball season at Greene County High School is in the rearview mirror. The last 1-1/2 seasons have produced one victory and 32 losses, including an 0-11 mark so far this season. What lies ahead for the 10 regular season games left on the schedule, plus the postseason?
Head coach Tori Ogden, in her third season heading the program, maintains an optimistic outlook, and there are some things to point to that support this viewpoint. The Rams are coming off scoring a season high 49 points in a Dec. 19 loss at Saydel in Des Moines. A trio of freshmen combined to score 28 of those points, led by Makenna Ebersole with a career best 16. Junior Emma Shipley added 12 points as the Rams doubled their team average heading into the contest. Barring no days of school being weathered out, Paton-Churdan sophomore transfer Becca Anderson will become eligible in about three weeks, and the number of turnovers is likely to go down, and the team scoring average could continue to increase.
A youthful team will continue to gain experience. The season resumes on Friday, Jan. 5 in Jefferson vs. Perry and that girl/boy doubleheader can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
