A Perry man was sentenced in Greene County District Court for a March incident at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson.

According to court documents, 66-year-old Paul Purviance pled guilty to a lesser charge of an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree fraudulent practices. He had a two year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for one year with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

The charge stemmed from an incident on March 13th when Purviance agreed to sit at a slot machine that Austin Hill allegedly won a jackpot of $7,599. However, when video surveillance was reviewed, Hill actually won the jackpot, but owes $40,000 in set-offs with the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program.

Purviance was also ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fees, and court costs. Purviance was originally charged with a Class D Felony for passing a winning wager onto another person. As per the plea agreement, Purviance pled guilty to the aggravated misdemeanor charge.
