The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has confirmed that one student has died and five other people were injured when a high school student opened fire this morning at Perry High School.

The Iowa DCI confirmed that 17 year old Dylan Butler made several social media posts ahead and during an attack on others in the building at 7:37 this morning. Butler was found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Additionally, a homemade explosive device was found in the high school, but was disabled by the State Fire Marshal.

Among the six victims, an unidentified sixth grade student was killed, and a school administrator was injured, as were four other minors.  Raccoon Valley Radio has learned that Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger was the administrator, and he was transported to a Des Moines hospital for surgery. Authorities say none of the injuries were life threatening. There are three vigil services happening in Perry, including at 5:30pm and 6pm at Weiss Park, and 7pm at Crossroads Church. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the 5:30pm vigil service live.
