The two school districts in Greene County have updated information regarding increased security measures following the events at Perry High School last week.

Students with the Greene County School District will be starting back to school from winter break on Monday and Superintendent Brett Abbotts says administrators, teachers and staff are having age appropriate conversations with students about what happened at Perry High School and the actions that the district and each school building are taking.

Additionally, Abbotts points out Jefferson Police Officers will have a presence at all three buildings this week and have investigated and will continue to investigate any inappropriate comments or posts and have deemed them to not be credible. The High School Student Council encourages everyone to wear blue in support of Perry. Furthermore, Monday’s early dismissal will include teachers and staff having a lockdown drill during Professional Development, and there will be a district-wide lockdown held later on with students.

As for the Paton-Churdan School District, Principal Annie Smith says the Greene County Sheriff’s Office will have deputies stationed in and around the school building this week as an increased security measure. They will also be diligent with their other safety measures such as the exterior doors remaining locked at all times, all visitors must be buzzed into the front entrance, parents can only drop their kids off at the main doors and are not allowed to walk the hallways, and only approved visitors are allowed in the building during the school day.

Both school districts are mindful of keeping all students safe, as that is their number one priority.
