Roadways in Greene County are starting to improve.

Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says the full fleet of snow removal crews have been out since 5am clearing and maintaining the county roads. He points out the biggest challenge has been the high winds blowing snow and causing drifts to happen. Weiss notes a lot of the ditches are completely full of snow and that crews will be done at 5pm today and will restart tomorrow morning at 5am.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says crews were out at 3am. He notes residential streets have been plowed from curb to curb and so the snow ordinance for the residential areas is no longer in effect. Crews are currently picking up and hauling snow from the downtown square and the snow ordinance will remain in effect for the downtown tonight, where vehicles are prohibited from parking from 2am-6am. Morlan points out their biggest challenge is the slippery conditions underneath the snow, causing equipment and vehicles to get stuck and maneuvering around several parked vehicles when plows were trying to clear the roads. He adds crews will be back out early Wednesday morning, before 4am, to finish clearing the downtown square.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, a tow ban remains in effect in Greene County.
