With several inches of snow covering the Raccoon Valley Radio area, the Greene County Sheriff has some safety reminders of when vehicles are on the roadway.
Sheriff Jack Williams advises against using this function with your vehicle.
“Just make sure you’re not using your cruise control because when you hit a patch of ice, if the car’s slowing when it’ll want to try and speed up and cause you to spin out.”
He also talks about other precautions to take, especially when there’s high wind gusts that can cause blizzard-like conditions.
“Then make sure you’re leaving early so you can get there (to your destination) and if you work out of town, if you can find a place to stay ahead of time in case it does get bad or the roads do get closed or blown shut.”
Williams adds to have a winter emergency kit as well in your vehicle with warm clothes, food, a blanket, cell phone charger and bottled water in case you go into the ditch and are waiting for law enforcement or a friend to pick you up.
