Understandably most of the conversation at Monday’s Perry School Board meeting was in regards to the tragic shooting, which included an impactful message from the Superintendent.

At Monday’s meeting, it was mentioned that the School Board considered postponing the meeting to another time in response to the incident but came to the conclusion to hear from the public to begin to find answers. The incident has shaken up the community, but Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks expressed his gratitude to the determination of the whole Perry community.

“But within the tragedy, I saw compassion, bravery, and overwhelming support among our school community, and therefore I also feel gratitude. In the past, we have shown that we are ‘Bluejay Strong’ and I witnessed it again from our families, our students, teachers, staff, and our community.”

Wicks assured the public that the board is having lots of discussions about how to navigate through this difficult time with a timetable to return to school, getting additional staff on board and more. An important note that Wicks highlighted is that daily announcements will be posted to the district website every day at 3pm in order to improve communication.
