The Greene County School Board met Wednesday night in regular session.
The meeting started with Board Vice President Cindy Daubendiek calling for a moment of silence of reflection in honor of the events that took place at Perry High School last week. Next, the Board acknowledged Kevin Paulsen on his retirement at the end of the school year after 25 years of service to the district. During reports, Superintendent Brett Abbotts spoke with the tragedy in Perry and sent correspondence to Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks. He added his appreciation to the Jefferson Police Department for their increased presence at the school buildings when students have been back in class and will continue the rest of this week.
The Board then approved three school driving permits as presented and one fundraiser request for the high school student council to do a fundraiser with proceeds directed to the Perry School District. They also approved the 2024 baseball and softball contracts for high school and middle school coaches, as well as two School Budget Review Committee requests for $14,563 for four students at Grandwood and $754 to Woodward Academy for one student. Additionally, the Board set a public hearing for the February 14th meeting for the 2024-25 school calendar, and the first reading of a board policy on a recommended addition to the use of federal funds in procurement contracts as presented.
