A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to probation for a September incident.
According to court documents, 43-year-old Christopher Lawrence pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of methamphetamine and a serious misdemeanor for an OWI. Lawrence was sentenced to three years of probation for the felony charge, and one year of probation and two days in the Greene County Jail for the misdemeanor, with both sentences to run consecutively.
The charges stemmed from an incident on September 27th. During a traffic stop for a non-functioning brake light, the Jefferson Police Officer saw Lawrence digging inside the vehicle and noticed signs of him being under the influence. When he was asked to step out of the vehicle, glass items broke on the ground, possibly pipes for drug use. Lawrence submitted to a field sobriety test and then admitted he took prescription drugs.
Court documents show that Lawrence was also ordered to pay over $2,000 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fees and court costs. As per the plea agreement, another Class D Felony for third or subsequent offense for possession of methamphetamine and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed. A second suspect in this case, Audrie Lawrence, has not been sentenced.
