Blizzard conditions stretch across Iowa and the Raccoon Valley Radio area.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that travel is not advised as all roads in the county are completely covered with snow. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation 511 travel website, a tow ban remains in place in Greene County.
Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says crews have been out since 5am, with their biggest challenge is the blowing snow, causing in some places in town to have four foot snow drifts. He points out that crews have plowed the roads twice today, but the snow ordinance will remain in effect because of the drifting snow. Morlan adds a portion of Central Avenue may be closed because of the high drifts and crews will be back out tomorrow morning to clean up the rest of the snow.
Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says the Secondary Roads Department has been out clearing paved county roads since 5am. He notes that gravel roads are not being worked on today, but will get attention tomorrow starting at 6am, along with paved routes starting up tomorrow morning at 5am.
