Looking North Towards White Pole Road on Adair Street in Stuart

The second round of true winter weather has hit the KKRF listening area in the span of a week.

Stuart Public Works Director Jim Henderson says that snow removal crews began efforts at 3am Friday morning, even though visibility has been a hindrance throughout the day. He adds that another big issue has been the wind, as it has continued to blow, and fill in areas that have been cleared almost as soon as they are cleared. Henderson says that because of this, he’s not sure when crews will finish for the day, as they want to make the roadways safe for city residents.

Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern says that their road crews started clean up efforts around daybreak Friday, and needed to use both plow trucks and motor graders, as the plows were having difficulty in some areas. He mentions that the blowing winds have made it difficult to keep up with the snow and keep it cleaned up, and they will be stopping before their usual time as they are unable to make much headway at this time. Sebern mentions that they will resume efforts around daybreak once again, and will focus on clearing highways. Once they can hold their own on the paved roads, he says that they will then begin efforts on secondary roads.

Sebern adds that even though the snow is supposed to stop sometime tonight or early tomorrow morning, the winds will continue, making this snow storm a weekend long event. Both he and Henderson do not recommend road travel at this time, unless it is absolutely necessary, and in that case, they urge the utmost caution.
