The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office is looking for volunteers to help them and other first responders during inclement winter weather.

Sheriff Marty Arganbright says that his office is looking for residents who have snowmobiles and would be willing to join a snowmobile emergency response team. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the recent snow storm helped push the decision to form the team, but that a model has been around for months.

“In fact, we had a model done in September about what we wanted and what we were trying to see, if the public could help. But the weather was so nice that we didn’t move forward on it until it got bad. And we’ve had quite a few responses from the northern part of the county, we just need some volunteers for the south part of the county so we can make sure we’re covered north, south, east and west.”

Arganbright mentions that they are looking for volunteers throughout the county, but especially along Highways 4, 44, 141 and White Pole Road. He adds that volunteers will be placed on a call log, and if there are instances where help is needed in their area, they will be called. Arganbright emphasizes that this is a volunteer position, and is unpaid. Volunteers could be asked to help bring stranded motorists to emergency responders, or vice versa, along with checking abandoned vehicles to make sure there are no occupants.
