A Jefferson father was arrested and charged with kidnapping his son after an alleged incident that triggered an Amber Alert Tuesday.
According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Jefferson Police Department requested assistance with the kidnapping of seven-year-old Bryson Duong by his biological father, 34-year-old Brandon Duong from Greene County Elementary School on Tuesday. Brandon was restricted from having custody of his son, following a court order this past December.
Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse confirmed that the Greene County School District placed the elementary and middle schools in a “Secure the Perimeter” after Bryson was taken from the playground improperly. The school district sent out communication that “all other students were brought inside from recess and resumed normal activities in the school for the remainder of the day.”
An Amber Alert was then issued at 3:28pm. Then just before 5pm, law enforcement found Brandon’s vehicle northeast of Remsen in Plymouth County. Brandon led law enforcement on a high-speed chase before eventually crashing his vehicle. DCI officials say Brandon left the vehicle on foot, in possession of a rifle, and carrying his son. Several law enforcement entities arrived in the area, negotiated with Brandon and he was eventually taken into custody. Bryson is now in the care of the Iowa Department of Human Services.
Brandon is charged with a Class A Felony for first degree kidnapping and will be transported to the Greene County Jail. The Jefferson Police Department and DCI are continuing their investigation at this time and Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
