St. Patrick’s School in Perry celebrates in a special way for the final week of January into February.

This week is National Catholic Schools Week, acting as a homecoming week for Catholic Schools around the country. St. Patrick’s School Principal Kandice Patillo describes the symbolism behind the week.

“It’s meant to highlight all of the things that like make Catholic Schools kind of what they are as well. So each day has a theme and it actually runs Sunday through Saturday, celebrating our students, our faculty, our staff, our community, vocations, various things throughout the week, so we kind of tell people it’s kind of like our homecoming week, and it’s one that we look forward to every year.”

Patillo speaks with Raccoon Valley Radio about the themes they have lined up. She says that Monday’s theme was “Celebrate Your Community Day,” with all the kids wearing blue in support of Perry Schools, Tuesday was “Celebrating Students Day,” and today’s theme is “Celebrate the Nations,” featuring a prayer retreat and an early out for the students. Patillo emphasizes that this is the second retreat, as it is a newer event.
