For the first time in 2024 the Greene County varsity boys’ basketball team won a game. Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams were 69-55 victors in Gowrie on Monday night vs. Southeast Valley in non-conference play. The Rams dropped the girls’ game to the Jaguars, 61-29.

The Rams had not won a boys’ game since Dec. 18 at Saydel, but came out on Monday and led start to finish, scoring 21 points above their season average. Senior Gabe Ebersole led the way with 24 points, followed by 17 from Brynley Ruzicka and 10 by Nathan Behne. All three are seniors. Greene County led by 18 on several occasions and was up 25-14 after one quarter and 41-25 at the half. The lead was 54-39 at the end of the third period. SEV got no closer than 10 points in the second half. The Rams are 2-18 and the Jaguars fell to 2-16. Greene County shot the ball well above their season average at 45%. Both teams made six three-point shots with four from Ruzicka and the other two for Ebersole, who scored 14 first quarter points.

SEV dominated the girls game with 10 baskets from three-point range to three from the Rams, all by Emma Shipley. Shipley and Makenna Ebersole each score 11 points for the Rams while Kenna Scott scored 26 and Breck Mills added 15 for the Jaguars. SEV is 11-8 and The Rams fell to 1-19.
