Four Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center FFA members are set to be recognized by the National FFA Organization later this year.
The AC/GC FFA Chapter announced that juniors Belle Fagan, Shay Lemke and Gavin Sloss, along with senior Jarrett McClain will be awarded their Iowa Degrees at the Iowa State FFA Leadership Conference on April 16th. For individuals to be considered for the degree are nominated by the State Committee, and must have the Chapter FFA Degree, be an active member of the chapter for 24 or more months, and have completed 360 hours of instruction in agriculture classes in high school. They must also have earned and invested $1,000 or more than 300 hours in excess of scheduled class time, and have at least 25 hours of community service.
Fagan has two Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE) which helped her meet those requirements, with one stemming from her cow/calf operation that she started as a freshman, while the other coming from working at the Chuckwagon restaurant in Adair. Lemke’s SAE at Cabbage Rose Restaurant in Guthrie Center has helped her complete record book hours, while McClain’s SAE’s lie in the fields of sheep production, ag mechanics maintenance and fabrication and agrisciences. Sloss has kept records of his cow/calf operation SAE that he and his sister run. Chapter Advisor Skie Shull says that the chapter is extremely proud of the four members, and is excited to add their names to the list of the 135 plus others who have received the degree before them, which can be found on the wall in the hallway leading to the ag classrooms.
