The Jefferson City Council recently gave approval to help with an endeavor for a recreational project.

At their January 23rd meeting, the City Council approved to be the fiscal sponsor for a grant application for a set of pickleball courts at Russell Park. City Administrator Scott Peterson explains the details behind why the City had to get involved as a fiscal sponsor.

“The uniqueness of this is that the application comes from the citizens pickleball committee, (and) not directly affiliated with the city. So in order for a committee such as that to apply to Grow Greene County (Gaming Corporation) they do need to have a fiscal sponsor, and the fiscal sponsor in this case being the city, so the City Council did go ahead and approve that.”

Peterson talks about the excitement that this project is gaining.

“Things are coming along great and we have had some really, really good, strong support from the community and their fundraising efforts. If they can have luck with their grant application I think you can expect to see a pickleball court in Russell Park this summer.”

Pickleball Committee Co-Chair Kathy Bravard said at the council meeting that their goal was to raise $240,000 and on January 23rd, over half of that goal had been met.
