Sixteen Class 2A wrestlers from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area competed Wednesday morning at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations have complete play-by-play today through Saturday night.

Four area wrestlers advanced to the Thursday morning quarterfinals while the other 12 will have Thursday morning consolation round matches. Semifinalists are Gavin Scheuermann of Greene County, a 15-2 major decision winner in his only match at 157 lbs. after receiving a first round bye. Perry’s two State qualifiers both won in round two after getting byes in round one. Kain Killmer at 190 won 5-0 and Keegan Snyder was a 10-6 winner at 215 lbs. Winterset’s Jaydn Cooper won in round round at 215 by a 19-2 technical fall and followed that with a round of 16 victory by a 5-1 final.

Greene County’s only win Wednesday was by Scheuermann as number three seed Brent Dennhardt lost 11-9 in round two at 165. Gavin Winters at 120 lost by fall in 1:58 in round one and Degan Miller at 175 fell by fall in the first round in 1:32.

Van Meter’s only entry is Quinn Arellano at 106, who won by fall in 1:18, then lost in round two 3-1. Tanner Paustian at 120 of Woodward-Granger won his first match by fall in 1:01, then lost by fall in 4:40. Jax Jensen of Winterset at 150 lbs. won by fall in 2:21, then dropped a 16-2 major decision.

Winterset’s other entries lost in the first round. That includes Kasen Cochran at 120, Jayse Jensen at 138, and Kahne Kiburz at 157 lbs. W-G’s other wrestlers also lost in round one including Alex Saxton at 138, Will Atkinson at 144, and Oliver Potter at 157.

All wrestlers advance to the 9 a.m. session on Thursday.
