Class 1A area wrestlers had their first and second rounds Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines at the State Tournament. Seven area wrestlers advancing to the Thursday night quarterfinals. Win or lose on Wednesday, all wrestlers advance to compete on Thursday. The field of 24 per weight class will be trimmed to 12 by the end of wrestling Thursday, then cut down further on Friday to the eight who will be place winners.

The top eight seeds in each of the 14 weight classes received first round byes. Those going 1-0 from the area and advancing to the quarter finals Thursday night were ACGC wrestlers Teagan Slaybaugh (120) and Payton Jacobe (285), along with Earlham’s Dallas Canoyer (113) and Ryan Stiles (165), Ashton Honnold (215) and Trenton Warner (285) from Nodaway Valley, and Kolton Munson of Ogden (126).

Complete play-by-play of area wrestlers starts at 9 a.m. tomorrow with Class 2A, then 3A at 1:30 p.m, and 1A tomorrow night at 6.
