
After one session of Class 3A wrestling at the Iowa High School State Tournament in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena, the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area is being led by the Wolves of Waukee Northwest. The Wolves have six individuals in the quarterfinal round tomorrow afternoon. All wrestlers, win or lose today, advance to Thursday either on the front or back side of the 24 person bracket.
Senior Carter Freeman at 138 lbs. is seeking his fourth State title and he needed just 29 seconds to win by fall. Koufax Christensen at 126 lbs. is after his third State title and fourth finals appearance, and a 19-2 technical fall started the day for the senior. The Wolves also have Carew Christensen at 106, John King at 132, Abe Parker 190, and Jamal Neeway 285 winning their way into the quarterfinals. Parker went 2-0 Wednesday while the others were 1-0. Parker had 9-2 and 5-2 decisions, with King winning 4-3 in tiebreaker 1, Carew Christensen winning 5-1 and Neeway needing just 53 seconds to win by fall.
Waukee Warrior Wesley Anderson at 165 lbs. advanced to the quarterfinals Thursday afternoon with a fall in 1:05.
All 25 wrestlers from area 3A programs will be in action Thursday in the round starting at 1:30 p.m.
