Perry High School will not be hosting the Band Olympics this year in light of the January 4th shooting, but will travel to North Polk High School, which is hosting the event, this Saturday.

Normally, Perry High School hosts the Perry Band Olympics, but as the school tries to return to normalcy, North Polk High School has stepped in to help. Perry Band Director Blaine Schmidt recalls receiving a text message from the Assistant Director at North Polk asking for permission to be the host school for the Band Olympics, in which Schmidt was all in favor. He is really grateful for North Polk volunteering.

“I honestly couldn’t ask for anyone better to do it because the head (band) director used to teach at Perry, and he ran the event for three years. And the assistant director is a good high school friend of mine, so if anyone is going to do it, I trust them the most.”

Schmidt says around 20 students, some who will be performing and others volunteering, will be traveling to North Polk on Saturday. The events will last all day from 8am to 4pm.
