Friday night the Class 1A wrestlers took to the mats at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines at the High School State Wrestling Tournament, with Class 2A and 3A individuals were in action earlier today. Sophomore Ashton Honnold of Nodaway Valley earned a trip to the 1A 215 lbs. finals at 215 lbs. Both 2A area wrestlers in the semifinals lost to undefeated and top seeded wrestlers, but Waukee Northwest in 3A has a familiar duo in the finals. Koufax Christensen(126 lbs.) goes for his third title on Saturday night in four finals appearances and Carter Freeman (138) will try to make it four for four in State title matches. The Wolves also have Carew Christensen (106), John King (132), Abe Parker (190), and Jamal Neeway as place winners. Their exact placings will be determined on Saturday.

Dallas Center-Grimes has Avery Van Zelderen as a place winner in 3A, and place winners from Waukee High School are Wesley Anderson at 165 and Grant Gammell at 175 lbs.

In 2A, Gavin Scheuermann at 157 lbs., Perry’s Kain Kilmer (190), and Jaydn Cooper of Winterset (215)will be place winners anywhere from third through sixth to be determined on Saturday. Keegan Snyder of Perry at 215 will wrestle for seventh on Saturday, as will Quinn Arellano of Van Meter at 106.

Other 1A are wrestlers that will be place winners are Dallas Canoyer of Earlham (113), Teagan Slaybaugh of ACGC at 120, Kolton Munson of Ogden (126), Nodaway Valley’s Trenton Warner at 285, and Payton Jacobe of ACGC at 285.

Saturday’s matches will be broadcast on all three Raccoon Valley Radio stations starting at 9 a.m.
