
Greene County High School senior Gavin Scheuermann became the 38th wrestler in the history of the Jefferson-based program to earn a State Wrestling Tournament medal. Scheuermann placed sixth in Class 2A on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines in the 157 lbs. weight class. He opened the tournament with two wins and advanced to the semifinals before dropping three matches in a row to end his season with a 30-6 record.
Scheuermann was the only Ram among four qualifiers to place in the top eight. Junior Brent Dennhardt went 2-2 at 165 lbs., with freshman Degan Miller 1-2 at 175 lbs., and junior Gavin Winters 0-2 at 120 lbs. Kirk Davis, a longtime high school wrestling coach in Iowa, completed his first season heading the Greene County program.
