
The number 4 team in 4A Dallas Center – Grimes girls basketball team played in their region 4 semifinal in Grimes on Saturday, facing a pesky Knoxville team. DCG was on the ropes through the first three quarters trailing by one, but a 14-1 advantage in the 4th quarter was able to give the Mustangs the victory 56-44. DCG picks up their 9th straight win and moves to 19-3. Knoxville ends their season at 11-11.
It was a see saw battle through the first three quarters with the game tied at 25 at halftime, with Knoxville nailing threes from beyond the arc through the first three quarters.
The Mustangs were able to turn Knoxville over multiple times in the final quarter and held the Panthers to zero field goals, while the offense was able to execute down the stretch. DCG was able to get 12 points from junior Devon Carlile and 10 points from senior Vanessa Bickford. Knoxville was led by junior Hannah Dunkin who finished with 13 points.
The Mustangs will be at home tomorrow in the regional championship against a familiar foe in the Pella Dutch. This will be the 3rd time in the last 19 days these two teams have played each other, with DCG winning the first two matchups. Game time from Grimes will be at 7 pm.
