Greene County High School will be buzzing with excitement as several high school jazz choirs will be performing later this week.

Vocal Director Dave Heupel says their jazz choir, Ram Jive, along with 13 other high school jazz choirs will be participating in the 3rd Annual “All That Jazz” Festival on Friday. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio each ensemble performs for 40 minutes and then they work with two clinicians, Kerry Marsh and Julia Dollison.

“Well I love that it’s immediate feedback. You’re doing your performance and then you’ve got somebody critiquing what you’re doing right away and you can work on that so quickly.”

Heupel points out that in the evening there will be a formal concert with Ram Jive at 7pm in the high school auditorium, followed by Marsh and Dollison performing together. Heupel is thrilled to have Marsh as a clinician and performer.

“We’ve done several Kerry Marsh pieces over the years and we just love him as an arranger. We’ve got to hear his wife (Julia Dollison) on recordings that we does with his pieces. Actually, our very first jazz clinic that we went to, we went to a clinic at Waukee in the middle of January, Kerry Marsh was the clinician. I had no idea who he was, no idea.

The evening concert is $10 per person and those will be available at the door.
