Greene County is under a burn ban.

Greene County Emergency Management Coordinator Doug Hawn was in consultation with the local fire chiefs in the county and then the application for the burn ban was approved by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. No open burning is allowed in the county while the burn ban is in effect, unless a permit is obtained through Iowa Code 100.40(3).

The burn ban remains in effect until further notice. If someone is found to be openly burning, that individual could be charged with a simple misdemeanor and a fine. Raccoon Valley Radio will notify the public of when the burn ban is lifted.
