Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley asserts that a movement for the Farm Bill needs to happen this month.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture worked with Former President Donald Trump to sign the Farm Bill into law in 2018. The USDA put a one-year extension on the bill to carry through 2024, and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley explains his stance on getting a long-term farm bill passed.

Grassley is hopeful that the new deal can be complete by July, but fears that if it isn’t done by then, that it would be pushed back to 2025 because of the presidential election. He mentions that there’s been no movement with advancing the bill and elaborates on the repercussions if nothing is done in March.

“And if we don’t get some movement in committee during the month of March, I don’t see how it’s going to get out, and then another pessimistic thing is even if we produced a Farm Bill, the chances of it getting floor time is even less.”

Grassley emphasizes that if a new long-term farm bill doesn’t happen this year, then that will add another one-year extension.
