A downtown business owner in Jefferson recently received a grant to help with renovations to a newly purchased building.
Jen Badger is the owner of ShineOn Design/More Time and she was awarded a $1,000 matching grant from Jefferson Matters and the facade grant program for the recent exterior renovations to the building next door to her business. She currently leases the space in the building she is in now, but purchased the building next door from Ken Bose in April of 2022. Since then, Badger points out the history of the building has been her most enjoyable aspect.
“Once I got going with the history of the building, I was in love and completely under its spell. And so we’ve been working really hard to uncover all of the history, bring back the historical look of the building, sort of honor its heritage and the folks that have owned that building before me.”
Badger goes into detail about examples of highlighting the historical image of the building, starting with the most notable part, the stained glass window sign.
“So my plan for the stained glass is to take it out, hopefully intact, and we’ll build a display box around it, and backlight it, and hang it in the store. There’s a lot of pieces that I kept along the way that will become display pieces in the store. And I plan on doing some placards and things that kind of explain what people are looking at.”
Badger also plans to add a kitchenette, bathroom and a separate office on the main floor for the More Time part of her business and utilize the basement for the ShineOn Designs business.
