Iowa Senator Sarah Trone-Garriott displays concerns pertaining to a bill regarding the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) land acquisition restrictions.
Trone-Garriott notes that each year there is a bill that makes it difficult to acquire public land in the state of Iowa. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that Iowans inform her that there isn’t enough public land to use. Trone-Garriott outlines this bill’s purpose.
“So this bill prevents non-profits from purchasing public land at auction. It takes the bidder out of the auction, so they cannot hold that land and then sell it to the DNR so it can be a public land.”
Garriott details that Iowa ranks 47th in the United States in terms of public land available. In the grand scheme of things, she realizes that rankings aren’t all that matter, but the most pressing issue is prioritizing Iowa’s public land space.
