The Dallas County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday and received more information pertaining to the new administration building in Adel.

Kristofer Orth of Farnsworth Group, was back in front of the board presenting several updates in regards to the administration building that is currently being constructed. Turner Construction Company has been involved in the maintenance process and the board approved a pay application in the amount of $1,725,529.04. Orth informed the board that the hope is to open the building by late September or early October. There was an acclamation to move forward with a building plaque that lists the supervisors, and other representatives on the board.

Orth then discussed possible lighting options for the exterior of the building. There were two options presented with one having four signs around the building titled “Dallas County Administration,” costing a rough estimate of $30,000, while the second option had permanent light fixtures on top of the building with the ability to change colors, costing $180,000. Supervisor Kim Chapman suggested having permanent lighting on only the south side of the building and that white lighting would work best. Supervisor Mark Hanson believed that having four signs around the building is excessive and thought two would be enough. Both Chapman and Hanson pointed out the absence of a public entry sign and determined that it should be included in the final design. Board Chair Brad Golightly agreed with Chapman and Hanson.

Other items on the agenda that were approved was a purchase agreement for the Dawson Road project, costing $2,813, and a dust control permit with two vendors (Jerico Services and Carstens Tree Moving Service). A proclamation for National Public Health Week during the first week of April was approved, along with an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding request allowing Stryker Medical to purchase a Physio Locust device, making for a more efficient method of CPR. The board passed a resolution to keep Jim Uthe as the Dallas County Weed Commissioner and the creation of a construction board of appeals was approved as presented.
