Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson sheds light on a couple of revisions being worked on at the Perry Municipal Airport.
Peterson explains that a construction meeting was held by the city to schedule a timeline to finish the grading for the runway extension, with the hope of it being ready to operate by July. He emphasizes that this will help improve the infrastructure at the airport, specifically the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). Peterson describes the functionality of the system.
“Which is basically just the weather system that pilots can call into and get a report on exactly what the weather is at the Perry Airport, so winds speed, temperature, the ceiling, which is the height of the clouds; so a bunch of data like that. A pilot can call in ahead of landing and be able to figure out what conditions they’ll be able flying into when landing or taking off from the Perry Municipal Airport.”
Peterson says that the AWOS system will be moved towards the southern end of the airport. This project is in conjunction with the remodeled runway.
