A member from the Perry High School Speech Team Reflects on the lessons learned from Coach Mandy Meyers.
The Perry Speech Team is taking eight acts to the Iowa High School Speech Association Individual Events State Contest, happening tomorrow at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School. Junior Andres Zarate is going back to the state competition performing radio broadcasting, and credits his current coach Mandy Meyers and his previous coach on how they helped him with confidence.
“Speaking, just in general being able to enunciate and be able to speak clearly at like a pretty quick pace. Meyers…Mandy Meyers, she’s been my speech coach for this year and a bit last month. My initial coach, Mary Butler, was the one that kind of got me like, get the ball rolling.”
Zarate and five other students from Perry High School will take their acts to ADM High School tomorrow for an opportunity to advance to All-State at the University of Iowa later this month. The full list of students and the acts they’re performing can be seen below.
