Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson was the site of the high school wrestling team Awards Night on Thursday. Head coach Kirk Davis and his staff presented letters and other awards to athletes and team managers.The 2023-24 Rams went 13-9 in dual meets, and finished second at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference Tournament.

Four Rams qualified for the Class 2A portion of the 2024 State Tournament last month in Des Moines. Senior Gavin Scheuermann placed sixth at 157 lbs. and was a State qualifier all four years of high school. Junior Brent Dennhardt at 165 lbs. wrestled at State for a second straight season, while junior Gavyn Winters at 120 lbs. and freshman Degan Miller at 175 lbs. both qualified for the first time.

Seniors lettering were Kolby Angell, Zeke Binkley, Gavin Scheuermann, Jackson Turner, and manager Georgia Osterson. Juniors earning letters were Marcus Ball, Crew Conner, Brent Dennhardt, Jacob Harmeyer, Gavyn Winters, and manager Sadie Shannon. Sophomore Eli Schroeder lettered, as did sophomore managers Nephtali Hoyt, and Madison Mobley. Both Brennan and Jaron Jacobs, Nehemiah Hoyt, Degan Miller, and Roman Sebourn, were freshmen who lettered.

Cheerleaders lettering are Elise Badger, Meadow Losee, Nala Losee, Maddie McCarthy, Skylar Warnke, and Veronica Van der Meer. Heart of Iowa Activities Conference Academic honors were earned by Badger, Mc Carthy, Warnke, and Meadow Losee. Meadow the team Captain and she plans on joining the Grand View University dance team in college.

Wrestlers and managers earning HOIAC Academic honors were Angell, Binkley, Conner, Winters, Harmeyer, Turner, Shannon, and Osterson.

Alex Hamilton received the Super Booster Award, with Roman Sebourn getting the Most Improved JV Wrestler Award, Nehemiah Hout was named Outstanding JV Wrestler. Conner was named Most Improved on the varsity, with Binkley getting the Citizenship Award, Brennan received the Iron Heart Award and Jaron Jacobs earned the Warrior Ethos Award. Dennhardt was named team MVP. GUTS Club awards for not missing any practices or meets went to Conner, Brennan Jacobs, Binkley, Turner, and Osterson.
