Monday was the first day of official practice for the girls’ soccer team from Greene County, and although not everyone was there due to school being on Spring Break, it appears the number of girls that will be out for the sport will increase. The Rams have had difficulty in recent seasons having enough girls to play JV and varsity contests, or playing a shortened JV game. Greene County girls’ soccer has a total of two victories combined in the last three seasons.
Head coach Maribel Hernandez told Raccoon Valley Radio she expects to field JV and varsity teams this season and that when all the girls report to practice next week, she is confident that she’ll have well over 20 girls. Wes Anderson is the JV coach, and the Rams will host West Central Valley in a Friday, March 22 scrimmage in Jefferson before opening the regular season in Jefferson on March 26 vs. Grand View Christian (Des Moines).
