Like many schools in the area, West Central Valley has found themselves struggling when it comes to finding officials and referees for different sporting events. A conversation with West Central Valley Activities Director and Football Coach Jim Lindsay, provided some insight on how West Central Valley has dealt with the problem of the lack of officials.

Lindsay explained the problem that West Central Valley and other schools have gone through when it comes to finding officials for their sporting events. “The cost of officials has gone up every year, for a lot of years.”

Thankfully, Lindsay stated that the basketball season at West Central Valley was not affected at all by the officials shortage. “We’ve been pretty lucky, ” Lindsay said, “we haven’t lost too many officials per say. You know, basketball wise we didn’t lose any games due to a lack of officials. I know soccer is a little thin, so I’ll be interested to see how that goes through this spring.”

Unfortunately, sometimes the solution is simple, but not easy to achieve. Lindsay states, “some of it is… you just have to increase what you pay to your officials and I think that every school is finding that out.”
