Injuries are a part of athletics and 2020 Greene County High School graduate Carter Morton is redshirting his fourth season of track & field at the University of Northern Iowa, partially because of ankle surgery last November. The 2023 Drake Relays Decathlon Champion and 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor and Outdoors Outstanding Performer is the son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson.

Coach Morton talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about Carter’s status. “He’s playing a different role this year. Had surgery on an ankle after tearing two ligaments last year, but competed on it. No one realized it was that, thinking that some time off would help it, but when he came back in the Fall it wasn’t getting better, so they did an MRI and they figured out he had to have a couple of (ligament) repairs.”

Carter is back to training, but not competing. He’s still dealing with some discomfort when high jumping and long jumping, but not when running. He’ll have the 2024-25 indoor and outdoor seasons to compete for the Panthers.
